SmarterTools, provider of SmarterMail, VCG's hosted email server platform, has reported a security breach on some of their servers.
According to SmarterTools, "Hosted customers were primarily impacted, and the Warlock Group began encrypting data on some of our servers. We were able to limit the scope of this activity, and what they did encrypt we have been restoring from our nightly backups. At this time, we see no indication that any data was exfiltrated or compromised beyond the attempted encryption.". See image below for full report providing by SmarterTools.
VCG does not host the SmarterMail platform on SmarterTools servers and based on this information, do not believe that our clients are impacted. VCG has, however, requested further information from SmarterTools on this breach and will provide updates as we receive them.
